Lot 4524
Crispus, Caesar, 316-326. Follis (Bronze, 19 mm, 2.58 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri, irregular mint, after 321. IVL CRISPVS NOB CAS Laureate and cuirassed bust of Crispus to left, holding spear over his right shoulder and shield on his left. Rev. BEATA TRAN-QVILLITAS / PTR Globe set on altar inscribed VO/TIS / XX; above, three stars. Cf. RIC 321 (for prototype). Minor smoothing, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The reverse of this coin could almost pass for that of an official issue, but the style of Crispus' bust and the uneven lettering and missing letter in the obverse legend indicate that this is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation, copying RIC 321 (Treveri).
